Affiliate links were once just links. Remember that. The purpose of having links in any content (and the reason why affiliate marketing works) is because they are useful. They make purchasing the things we want easier. Don’t abuse your online platform by filling your page with spammy, pointless affiliate links. Be sure to create that quality content and only include them when and where they add value. It’s a balance that, when found, makes your viewers happier and earns you more commissions.
As to the issues in IL… there are plenty of ways to avoid having your business closed up by an idiotic Governor including like moving your business to a neighboring state that’s actually business friendly. There are ways around the issues and I know I wouldn’t let Amazon shutting the program down in my state stop me. I can’t legally advise you what to do, but I’m just saying there are ways around it.
Great article. The Azon theme is pretty amazing for Amazon niche sites. If you want, check out the site listed with this post to see how I utilized the Azon theme. Still, I have a little bit of wrap up work. Great post, once again.
That way, if you decide to write a review to promote it or send the affiliate link for the product’s sales page to your email list, etc., you will have first-hand knowledge of how it works. This will help you to decide it the product has real value pertaining to your niche. I, personally, won’t sell anything I haven’t tried myself to be sure they work as advertised. Selling just to make money with no real value is a sure way to lose customers and ultimately destroy your business. Bad reputations are hard to get rid of once you get one, especially when there’s money involved. With that being said, I hope you all have a great holiday season.
Affiliates discussed the issues in Internet forums and began to organize their efforts. They believed that the best way to address the problem was to discourage merchants from advertising via adware. Merchants that were either indifferent to or supportive of adware were exposed by affiliates, thus damaging those merchants’ reputations and tarnishing their affiliate marketing efforts. Many affiliates either terminated the use of such merchants or switched to a competitor’s affiliate program. Eventually, affiliate networks were also forced by merchants and affiliates to take a stand and ban certain adware publishers from their network. The result was Code of Conduct by Commission Junction/beFree and Performics, LinkShare’s Anti-Predatory Advertising Addendum, and ShareASale’s complete ban of software applications as a medium for affiliates to promote advertiser offers. Regardless of the progress made, adware continues to be an issue, as demonstrated by the class action lawsuit against ValueClick and its daughter company Commission Junction filed on April 20, 2007.

You’re right, Javier – the Smart Blogger audience is mostly beginning and intermediate bloggers and online businesses. The merchant side is more of an advanced topic. But good suggestion. Maybe they’ll address the merchant side in the future.

Great graphic!! There is an online affliate marketing business opportunity that seems to be pretty comprehensive. They manage all of the affliate merchants for me and I leverage an online portal to send customers through. And I can link that portal to my blogs, facebook page, twitter, etc. They manager over 3,000 partner stores and it seems to be growing everyday. Pretty cool so far. I love to shop online so this was a great business opportunity for me. And they have their own brokered products too. I think affliate marketing is just going to keep growing as businesses go from brick and mortar to click and order!
Thank you for detailed post. I am eagerly looking to start an affiliate website for Amazon products. Google search brought me on this page and I am happy to learn what the heck affiliate is all about. Looks like it is something I can do best now.
This is necessary because of the competitive nature of affiliate marketing and to be able to make money online. Daily, new techniques and methods are developed; you wouldn’t want to be left behind while new trends take over.
When you promote a product you also promote the person or the company who is behind the product so try to choose wisely. You don’t want your visitors to go and buy a product following your advice then come back unhappy. Do you think that this visitor will come back to your site and take your advice again? Most likely no; this can hurt your credibility in the long run. Usually, websites/company that offer good customer service will have better customer satisfaction so try to stick with promoting their products.
Despite being the smallest age group on the platform, Facebook seems to be the best option for reaching older users on social media when compared to other networks. Here’s a breakdown of social media usage of 65+ year olds on other networks:

Affiliate marketing is an effective money-making strategy for countless online entities – however, as straightforward as it is in theory, success is rarely as easy as it looks. The best way to build a dedicated audience for any blog is to carefully and clearly define its target audience right from the start, and then create content that caters to that audience. is also considered as important strategy for creating and publishing a successful blog is to develop content that isn’t readily available elsewhere in the blogosphere or on the web. Hi Chris. I still have a hard time visualizing making this kind of money selling amazon products, because the payouts are so low. You need to move a tremendous amount of merchandise in order to make decent money. The FBA makes more sense, because the commissions can be so much more.
In this video I reveal a simple way to make money with affiliate marketing without having to build a website. This is a great way to earn small amounts of passive income over years of time. It will take a little bit of work to get this to work though.
If you want to make some money fromYouTube with your affiliate program, you must use small affiliate links. Most of the affiliate links are so long. Hence long affiliate links will look ugly when you add them to your product review video. For this reason, ensure that the links you use for your YouTube marketing are short to make it easy and straightforward for your viewers to click on and be directed to your product.
If you promote say a product from Amazon, the cookie is only valid for 24-hours! Now lets say you have 50,000 visitors a month, realistically, 100-150 or so will click in (I say this from experience and from having seen many high-traffic blogs, who do affiliate marketing). Out of this 100-150 clicks, they usually have 1-3 sales per month. That’s it.

Making a single, general ad to be shown to all of the different types of people on Facebook is inefficient and ineffective. Create different ads for different customers by tailoring to their preferences. An ad created for a potential new customer who has never heard of your company should be focused on building brand awareness, whereas an ad for someone familiar with your business should discuss additional aspects of your product or service that may benefit them. You can also take advantage of Facebook Audience Insights to know your audience based on age, demographics, lifestyle, gender, relationship status, and more.
Azam Marketing has been at the cutting edge of affiliate marketing since 1997 and is one of the best known and respected companies in the industry. We have won countless affiliate marketing awards over more than two decades for the quality of service and volume of leads we provide.
These kinds of videos will help the audiences to get proper information about the product and build the trust factor. You can easily put in the affiliate links below the video in the explanation part and start making passive income.
Affiliate marketing currently lacks industry standards for training and certification. There are some training courses and seminars that result in certifications; however, the acceptance of such certifications is mostly due to the reputation of the individual or company issuing the certification. Affiliate marketing is not commonly taught in universities, and only a few college instructors work with Internet marketers to introduce the subject to students majoring in marketing.
All of this data leads back to the fact that Facebook Pages are a useful tool for your business. This is especially true in getting the word out and providing quick customer service. People equate quick responses to good customer service, so plan your social media customer service strategy accordingly.
Building up a large base of traffic is in itself a huge challenge. There’s an overwhelming amount of content on the Web dedicated to attracting visitors to your website, and we won’t go into any detail on the topic here. (Check out SEOmoz or Search Engine Land if you really want to read more).
Product unboxing and reviews. If you’re excited about something you’ve purchased, don’t open it right once you get it home! Instead, film yourself opening it and your reaction as you go through the process. Also, you can do product reviews, which takes the usual written review and puts it into a more engaging medium.
Amazon has a bestseller page found simply at Amazon.com/bestsellers and so one thing I’ve done on my site is publish a bestsellers list and simply mention the currently trending bestsellers. Generally speaking the cream rises to the top so if you write an article talking about the bestselling products those are likely to be the best products your visitors are looking to buy anyway.
It is important to choose the products that you will promote though. Sometimes, promotion doesn’t have to be deliberate. It can be as simple as a recommendation of a product that worked for you. This is actually better in promoting products in affiliate marketing.
I try to personally just err on the side of being as transparent as possible about my relationship with the brand. So if they gave me a free product, and I’m not getting compensated for it, I’ll just say that. If it’s an affiliate relationship, like they have no idea who I am, that I’m even talking about it, but I do get a small percentage of the sale, thank you. I just try personally just to be– because trust is the main thing, like currency with your viewers that is most important. And anything that could kind of potentially violate that, personally I’m just like, I want to be completely up front with you guys about everything, whatever’s going on, so there’s no questions. And you guys can always feel like you can trust what I’m saying.
