It is all too common to be working on one thing when all of a sudden, something “shiny” comes through your inbox or is mentioned in a forum you frequent. Then off you go chasing some new idea to make money online.
Very interesting post. I am saving this page for future reference. I personally liked tip #9. I know some people who try to locate themselves in niches that sell high valued products only and they do not make enough sales, consequently low commission as well. It’s better to target those items that sell quickly first, where people do not do a lot of thinking and research before buying.
Sure, you may already have a job and other commitments. Just record a lot of material on weekends and spend some time each day editing and uploading content. Many new people make the mistake of uploading just one or two videos to test the waters.
The niche you choose might draw enough interest from your audience when it comes to reading and acquiring knowledge, but are they willing to buy relevant products too? Without consumer interest in products, your niche isn’t going to make you much money.
The vast majority of affiliate relationships are run either through networks or through custom platforms established by merchants. There’s a reason for that; these types of arrangements are the easiest to manage, and allow scale for both merchants and affiliates.
Third, don’t forget to leverage social media (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Pinterest) to give an extra push to your videos. This part will work well if you have some viral element on your videos (e.g., rants, humor, how to stuff).
Hey Sue, I can’t disclose the amount of money that the website was earning when I sold it, but as I admitted at the onset of the article my income from Amazon would have surpassed $100,000 had I not sold the site. I already have several other authority style websites I’m building up as well as my network of smaller niche sites that earn good money as well.

WP Rich Snippets – premium plugin that adds rich snippets (eg. review stars) to your snippets. You get 33% of sales and it’s what I use on my site. I recommend it over the All In One Schema.org plugin as it looks nicer with more settings and add-ons. Here’s a post I used it on. If you’re writing reviews as part of your strategy, get this for yourself.

Your Goals Affiliate Marketing like any other business requires time and patience. Sent your goals as to whether you will set short, medium and long term goals. This will help you to decide how far you want to take your business.
Once I found my niche (WordPress speed optimization), a solid hosting company with a high commission affiliate program (SiteGround) and created tutorials around topics people in my niche would find helpful (and might want to change their host), that’s what got me to $100k.
Great visual of how affiliate marketing works! I will be sure to share this with my new affiliates when they sign up. Many of them sign up because they know they want to be an affiliate marketer but still don’t know what it actually is.
Education occurs most often in “real life” by becoming involved and learning the details as time progresses. Although there are several books on the topic, some so-called “how-to” or “silver bullet” books instruct readers to manipulate holes in the Google algorithm, which can quickly become out of date, or suggest strategies no longer endorsed or permitted by advertisers.
It’s easy to throw up Google AdSense on your blog – but good luck making decent income from it. It is NOT personalized whereas affiliate links involve people taking YOUR recommendation on very specific things. It also makes your site slower than a turtle. Not good for monetization!
If you are writing online your posts should be brief, clear, checked for spelling and grammar and consistent. Your blog may not have broad appeal if it has limitations in these, so your EBooks and public posts can benefit from a professional proof-reader, or extra classes in English, whether it is your first language or not. Whether you write a blog, a book or anything else, your only tool to deliver your message is language, and you should gain all the skills you can with it. If you don’t have time for this, use the services of someone with the best language skills you can find.
Mark, WordPress isn’t just for blogging. You can build a static site using WordPress and have your blog integrated so users just need to click on a tab to see your latest posts. That works better than setting up a redirect or sending them to another site or having to something together yourself. There are tons of additional plug-ins for WordPress to enhance its features and capabilities.

Real Talk: In-stream videos are Facebook’s answer to advertisers’ complaints about disengaged viewers. They are effectively replicating the television experience by forcing viewers to watch in-stream ads if they want to be able to view a piece of content in its entirety. Welcome to interruption-based marketing. If we’ve learned anything from the digital consumer, it is that they do not want to sacrifice their experience. They want to consume what they want, when they want, how they want. To truly engage consumers, Facebook should be designing ad formats that flow – or dare we say, even enhance – the user experience, like their other ad products. This is a departure from their typical advertising options and, in our opinion, a bad one for consumers. But, will the draw of Facebook be powerful enough to keep users’ frustration at bay?

I’ve been using Rakuten and still happy about it but now I’m trying a few other networks as well. I quite like Online Affiliate World but they specialise in gaming and poker more so I needed a bit of guidance and help. Their customer support is great so wish me luck moving forward. Any other good niche networks I should look at?
