I appeared as a guest on Weapons of Mass Marketing earlier this week to discuss the topic of marketing affiliate programs. The hosts evidenced the importance of the often overlooked question by leading off their interview with:
It was about a week before I’d have to flee the country due to the crackdown, and I already had to leave my apartment due to gunfire and grenades going off constantly for 48 hours. (Seriously, true story).
Whoever is managing the program does the work of recruiting quality affiliates, getting them engaged, finding ways for them to promote the merchant, and valuing the ones that bring in incremental revenue.

I have started signing up for some affiliate programs and reading the fine print is over whelming! I have noticed that they are all very similar, but one thing I was wondering, after I become an affiliate, I cannot use my own link to order things? Is this correct? I want to post things that I actually use. I will not take advantage of this, but just want to check! Thank you so much for your blog, mine is a result of yours!

Know what sets each program apart. Affiliate programs are everywhere online, and it can be hard to tell them apart. Each program distinguishes itself by the products it sells. Some affiliate programs only require you to post links; others will ask you to pay money to learn about how to sell the product you are selling. As the latter type of affiliate, you can make commissions by getting others to pay—by bringing other marketers into the fold. Be wary, however, of any program that asks you to pay.
There are of course more lessons that cover the basics, plus market research and site building if you want to know more about any of these beginning stages. The Affilorama forums are there to help if you have any questions or you just want to talk to others who’re also getting started.
Excellent numbers! Keep up the good work 🙂 I have a quick question for you, what’s your take on Prosociate? Associate Goliath? etc. I installed Prosociate on one of my sites and imported a ton of products from Amazon. Next, I noticed I’m getting a ton of clicks, but zero conversions. Any thoughts?
