I’ve always been afraid to use my affiliate links here on youtube, because I’ve heard horror stories about people being shut down. I have one question. If I post an amazon affiliate link, do I need to check the content declaration box?
People will trust you more. You’re no longer some faceless person writing on a website; instead, you are a living, breathing human being that your audience can see. Even if you only produce short videos, it will be a chance for them to get to know you better.
How long does it take before you start getting sales from a new site? I put a new site up and had 13 sales within 30 days and then nothing. Did I just get lucky or do you think it will “kick in”? I have just started doing some bookmarking day and hope this will help. Comments?

Data science and media technology provider 4C Insights examined the evolution in social advertising spending and found that in 2016, Facebook saw a 74% increase in paid ad spend(1). In 2018, Facebook video is going to be a key component of digital strategy. The aim of Facebook video ads is to help retailers engage customers and drive sales. Facebook is testing a new ad format called lifestyle templates for the Collection ad format (which has been around since March) to help print catalog marketers with “bringing the richness of their catalog creative to mobile.” This ad unit consists of a video on top and four recommended products below(2).
You become an affiliate for something that you’ve used yourself, had a good experience with, thoroughly tested and feel good recommending. You should be fairly confident that others will get the same results you did (or better), as long as they do the work.
I’ve been very conflicted about affiliate marketing for a long time. (I wrote about some of my concerns recently.) My concern is that the nature of the conversation between you and your community can change because of it.
The amount you can make will vary wildly – it honestly falls somewhere between zero and millions. Your income will be directly related to the type of offers you promote, how much traffic you get to the site, and your grasp of other online marketing skills like email marketing and SEO.
Good writup. I have been reading up about affiliate marketing and have heard others comment that AMAZON payouts (around 4% per sale) are exactly what we should be looking at as a long time business. What is you view on that? Are there other alternatives to Amazon with higher payouts?
File-Sharing: Web sites that host directories of music, movies, games and other software. Users upload content to file-hosting sites and then post descriptions of the material and their download links on directory sites. Uploaders are paid by the file-hosting sites based on the number of times their files are downloaded. The file-hosting sites sell premium download access to the files to the general public. The websites that host the directory services sell advertising and do not host the files themselves.
I’m a newbie and just stumbled into this article, which I find hugely informative. So thank you for writing this article. I’m close to finishing building my very first website and don’t have a domain yet, but have a question. Since affiliate program is considered a business, I’m wondering how do we set up a simple LLC one person company to separate our personal stuff from our online business stuff? Is there a simple reliable step-by-step guide we can follow, or does anyone here can advise with your own experiences? Thank you.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed at the beginning because the whole process isn’t exactly small, but you will never have to try to do everything at once. You can take it one step at a time, and when you do, you’ll find it’s not so difficult to get the wheels moving.
Learn how it works. An affiliate marketer embeds her own unique affiliate link in her web page or blog. This link does not have any impact on customers, and it does not alter the price of any products/services being offered by affiliates. However, any time the customer makes a purchase after clicking an affiliate link within a specified time frame, the marketer gets a commission from that sale. How much you earn will depend on each affiliate’s prices, commission percentages, and the number of sales you’re able to initiate on a weekly or monthly basis.
Overall, less than three days could result in a sample of results that are too few and/or scattered to really mean anything on a larger scale. More than 14 days could result in a lower ROI since most A/B split test winners can be determined before this two-week period is up.
That’s a great question, and a good point. We mentioned that Facebook video has a shorter lifespan than on YouTube, but exactly how short is it? We did some research, and it’s tough to determine exactly how long the average lifespan is for video posts specifically. However, our friends at Post Planner have a great post on the lifespan of Facebook posts in general, pinning it down somewhere between 3 and 5 hours.
Email marketing — in this method, marketers embed an email subscription option for website visitors. This allows the marketer to acquire a site visitor’s name and email address, which can help build a lasting relationship and expose the visitor to the marketer’s newsletter.9
And this is becoming a favorite online marketing technique for both advertisers and affiliates. Why? The seller makes a sale they otherwise may not have received, and you get a piece of the earnings – win, win.
Your main task will always be traffic generation (i.e. driving prospects to the merchant’s website via your unique “affiliate” link). You can start by finding ways to drive free traffic and then adding paid advertising methods to your traffic mix.
Thanks. Really helpful video! Looks like I have to subscribe your channel because you are very straightforward and giving clear answers. Not like other people who are talking half an hour and still not answering questions.
I’ll use MoneySavingExpert.com as an example again. The site has over 154,000 likes on its Facebook page and it connects with the audience by sharing links to content but also asking money-saving/budgeting related questions. The highly engaged readers then visit the website, where they read content and no doubt make purchases.
While your site is still new, it’s a good idea to start capitalizing on someone else’s audience. Continue focusing on building your own content, but also considering writing content for a few big, high-traffic blogs that are relevant for your niche. By writing content for a bigger site, you are able to get in front of another audience and showcase your expertise on a particular topic. This will eventually lead to more traffic to your site, as well.
The amount of money you spend in promoting the blog and promoting the product, does not do justice to the income made. Many people will tell you of how to go about making 100s of sites with micro-niches, etc. and you will be raking in the money. Please go ahead and try and prove me wrong. I would love to see to the contrary.
High Level Affiliates: Focuses on mass market media buys and hugely scalable traffic sources. Often trades convenience (self serve traffic sources) for direct buys with better margins and all of the pie. Greater risk involved, more capital required.
When you visit an affiliate company, you’ll be able to choose between a free plan or one that comes with a monthly cost. The premium membership comes with more support, more websites, and a stronger connection to the affiliate marketing community, but if you’re at the point where you’re just dipping your toe in the water to see what it’s like, the free membership option comes with some support for the first week and enough freedom and tools to quickly create a basic website and get going.
As I mentioned above, there is no limit to the amount of money you can earn from affiliate programs. It all depends on which program you’re promoting and how many conversion you are making. I started with $47 as my first affiliate income, and now I make almost $4k-5K/month by promoting products which I use every day.
The beauty of making money in affiliate marketing from blogging is that you can virtually write like a dog online and still get hordes of traffic from Bing, Google, and YaHoO, if you do the transformation business work and post fresh content everyday or every other day to your blog w/ affiliate ads around it. The money comes when least expected.
