The vision of my blog does not necessitate my making money from it, but I’m not closed off to the idea. But I’m having trouble envisioning how I would use affiliate marketing, except maybe to recommend certain books I read. My site is more of a devotional/Christian living-type blog. Do you have any other suggestions of ways I can use affiliate marketing? I might add a “LOVE THESE SITES” type page of things I really love. Maybe that’s overkill?
For instance, if you run a brick-and-mortar store, you may want to reach people who live in your community. If you sell how-to books, you can select people with interests that are likely to align with the information that you are providing. To maximize your results, you should consider creating different sets of targeting and then A/B test to see which ones perform the best.
I come from a quite unsuccessful background of web design/SEO. I blogged because I knew it was good for SEO, but my articles never had a purpose regarding monetization. I finally took a leap of faith and dropped my clients to figure out blogging/affiliate marketing. I was good at website speed optimization and knew hosting was the #1 factor. Looking for the best, I saw SiteGround was rated #1 in multiple Facebook polls and had a great reputation with generous affiliate commissions. So I wrote detailed tutorials on how to website speed… how to configure WordPress cache plugins, hosting reviews, and other speed-related topics. Usually near the end of a post I would say “Oh, and here’s why you should switch to SiteGround” with evidence on why they’re the best… Facebook polls, Tweets, load time improvements, etc. That’s when things got good… I never had money like this so I feel like it’s my calling to help other people overcome financial instability and create passive income through SEO and affiliate marketing.
I read this post a while ago and I had to reference it in my blog. I just started out as an affiliate marketer and I’m still learning a lot. I find myself stumbling across your site a lot and getting inspiration.
It was about a week before I’d have to flee the country due to the crackdown, and I already had to leave my apartment due to gunfire and grenades going off constantly for 48 hours. (Seriously, true story).
Link clocking: Most of the affiliate tracking links are ugly. Using a link clocking technique like URL shorteners, Thirsty Affiliates, etc., you can turn ugly links into links that can be read and understood by your readers.
Born & raised in south Texas, Eric has enjoyed his career as a firefighter and paramedic since 2002. When he’s not building websites he’s traveling as far and often as he possibly can, and fully understands how awkward it is to type a paragraph about yourself in the third person. The implementation of affiliate marketing on the internet relies heavily on various techniques built into the design of many web-pages and websites, and the use of calls to external domains to track user actions (click tracking, Ad Sense) and to serve up content (advertising) to the user. Most of this activity adds time and is generally a nuisance to the casual web-surfer and is seen as visual clutter. Various countermeasures have evolved over time to prevent or eliminate the appearance of advertising when a web-page is rendered. Third party programs (Ad-Aware, Adblock Plus, Spybot, pop-up blockers, etc.) and particularly, the use of a comprehensive HOSTS file can effectively eliminate the visual clutter and the extra time and bandwidth needed to render many web pages. The use of specific entries in the HOSTS file to block these well-known and persistent marketing and click-tracking domains can also aid in reducing a system’s exposure to malware by preventing the content of infected advertising or tracking servers to reach a user’s web-browser.
Once you find a niche with high demand, little supply (do your Google research), and a reputable affiliate offering nice commissions… and you have patience to wait for financial results while creating your assets (I’m talking about content), I encourage you to take the leap.
The beauty of making money in affiliate marketing from blogging is that you can virtually write like a dog online and still get hordes of traffic from Bing, Google, and YaHoO, if you do the transformation business work and post fresh content everyday or every other day to your blog w/ affiliate ads around it. The money comes when least expected.
This is another big mistake I made when starting out — joining any and every affiliate program I came across. While I absolutely do believe in cultivating multiple streams of income when working online, there is a point where you have too much to deal with and it becomes unmanageable.
You recommend (sometimes referred to as market or promote) this product or service to your followers. You might do this by writing a post about it, placing a button or banner ad somewhere on your site, mentioning it in your email newsletter or talking about it on social media. You include a special link to the product or service so followers can check it out for themselves. But you don’t just use any link, you use your affiliate link. It contains a special number, your affiliate ID, which is unique to you.
If you’re in the WordPress industry like I am (whether it be design, development, or SEO) I have accumulated quite the list of WordPress affiliate programs. I excluded those I found unsuccessful or pay too little to make a profit from, specifically ThemeForest, Creative Market, and low quality theme stores like Template Monster. Hosting pays well and I wrote a tutorial for SiteGround’s affiliate program and StudioPress themes which are my 2 highest paying affiliates. Those tutorials have tons of screenshots/social proof especially for SiteGround.
